Getting Traffic and Missing Out on Conversions

The two biggest challenges on monetizing a blog are driving traffic and getting conversions, agreed?  One key to conversions is understanding how benefits improve response in a blog.

My coach Bo Tipton tells me it is ALL about communicating the benefits to my readers that will come to him when he takes action on my recommendations. ( I  linked here to training from Bo’s many years of marketing experience that will benefit any blogger…I know it has me, and I believe it will for you, too)

Are you getting traffic, without conversions?

Here is the formula that Bo has told us, that successful Affiliate marketers obtain over and over again:

  • 10,000 visits or impressions result in
    10 clicks that result in
    1 Sale

I wasn’t there yet!  He Gave Me a Challenge!

I wanted to be.  My trainer told me my next step:  Make sure I clearly communicate benefits to my readers!  He taught me how benefits improve response in a blog by Lining them up clearly: 1, 2, 3.

The initial test group for the Wealthy Affiliate Go-Getters has been taking on a lot of challenges from our coach Bo Tipton.  Bo really holds our feet to the fire to do the work to become successful with Wealthy Affiliate.

That’s why you have a coach, isn’t it?

a personal trainer sets individualized goalsThe Role of a Personal Trainer

Take the idea of a personal trainer…Your personal trainer doesn’t invent a new way to do crunches or lunges.  He doesn’t even come up with an exercise routine that is unique from any other one.

What a trainer does is to individualize, systematize and encourage the trainee to go harder, further and deeper than would happen on my own.

That is what our WA Go-Getter Coach has been doing.  That’s what is available to you at 1000DollarProject.  Don’t pass up this low-cost high-value training!

We began with implementation of everything we learn at Wealthy Affiliate.

I have been a good doobie with the training our coach Bo Tipton has been giving us here on Wealthy Affiliate Go-Getters.  Everything has the overall focus of implementing how benefits improve response in a blog.  It’s the benefits that help my reader and his response that monetizes my work.

Time Commitment

I put at least 5 hours every day, doing the work.  That is divided up into segments.  I am not yet on the routine of maintenance.  I am still implementing new ideas and still getting training.  I expect that to continue throughout my training with Bo, which is to be a full year.  So here is how my work day goes:

Its not a get rich quick program..it takes time and it takes knowing how benefits improve response in a blog
It takes time and it takes knowing how benefits improve response in a blog

Social Media: 30 minutes
Others Blog Comments: 30 minutes
Training, including Skype, Wealthy Affiliate: 30 minutes
Direct Advertising – Both Paid and Free including videos, ads on TOAN: 30 minutes
Posting on Wealthy Affiliate, WA Go-Getters: 30 minutes
Work on my Blog: 1.5 hours
Work on my Autoresponders: 1 hour

(If you’re looking for more information on autoresponders please let me know in the comments below.  I have an awesome resource for you.)

So far, it takes me more than 4 hours every working day.  My goal is to get to 4 hours, and I will as I get everything in place.  Right now, I am still doing work to automate my business.

Plans for Time Commitment in the Future

The time I put in on training will grow less as I complete the Wealthy Affiliate Boot Camp and the training with Bo.  My timeframe for that is by year-end.  Also the time I am now putting in on setting up autoresponders and ads and videos will grow less.

The goal with these is to automate, so that I can maintain.

The advertising will take less time once I get the clicks that are at least within the industry norm.

Right now, I am still getting the ads in place.  Even the ads also have the goal of communicating benefits.

I started just this month putting paid ads on The Online Advertising Network (TOAN).  This is a really great ad training ground that Bo told us about.

Let me be clear here:  Bo has not recommended that we get started with TOAN.  He is a firm advocate of reinvesting a portion of the money that we earn with our online business.  We are doing the work to get to the point of making $1000 a month by the end of this year, and he will be wanting us to put part of that back into investment in some paid ads and other ventures.

A couple of us, including me, decided we wanted to put some money in now, to accelerate things.  Bo advised that TOAN at $19.95 is the place to get the best return on investment of money and time.  TOAN has an affiliate program that gives the possibility of not only having the ads free every month, but of making TOAN into an additional stream of income.  If you’re ready to make a small investment in growing your business, check it out.

I am getting impressions at a rate of 4,000 a week with my ads!  It’s a lot of work, and I hope to have a big impact in the worlds of my readers as my site matures and as I hone it to be the best it can be.

Give clear benefits to your readers for using your solutions to their problemsMy clicks are lagging the industry norm so far.

That’s where the next challenge about being clear on communicating benefits comes in.

I’m just in my first month with TOAN, and I want to give it time to be a good test.  Still, I have learned some commonsense marketing from my trainer that it makes sense for me to implement right at the get-go.  And my goal here is to share that with you.

I have also learned that using the predone banner and text ads that I get from my affiliates are not that effective.  While they get a lot of impressions, a lot of other people are using them, too.  So readers do not click through on mine. That makes sense to me!

I am learning how to develop unique ads of my own.

Just like with any other aspect of this blogging business, taking the easy way is not the road to success.  I have to take a road less traveled.  I have to give my own unique set of benefits to my readers for them to respond.  And my own unique presentation of those benefits.

It comes down to using the same formula we do with everything else in this business.  Identify a problem, provide a solution, explain the benefits of the solution and give a call to action.

Why it took me a while to get shows that all this marketing training I am getting is a learning curve for me.

The good news is the training is here!  I have my degree in English Literature.  I didn’t study business and marketing.  I am learning it now, with the excellent training at Wealthy Affiliate.  And I am implementing it with guidance and direction from my coach and personal trainer Bo!

A Business coach and trainer teaches, challenges, and holds you accountableHow Benefits Improve Response in a Blog

The first place I have applied this improvement on the benefits communication is on my TOAN ads.  They are a part of what drives traffic to my blog.

The next focus has been on my capture pages.  I have set up, under Bo’s training, an automated email system with Traffic Wave.  Having an email list is acclaimed by many who are hugely successful online.

I just got this advice this week, so I am in process on this.  But I do think that this is an area that I will be continually working to improve as long as I am in this business.

I will be improving and testing my ads.  I will be improving my capture pages.  I will be improving my blog posts, pop-ups, and invitations on my sidebar – always with the intent to communicate the benefits of the solutions I offer to my readers.

My goal is to make a positive impact in the lives of my readers.  To do that, I need to let them know clearly how my solution will benefit them!

Thanks, Coach, for this new challenge!  I’m on it!

  1. Hello Annie, I hear you! This is such an inspiring post to get us going even stronger. And you are so right, if we have a coach or trainer, it is about how we decide to be as a participant. I know that I am also all in. I am now visualizing and seeing how my business is successful. And all thanks to Bo for his amazing guidance and unwavering commitment to each of us.
I have also started on the TOAN and I am seeing results also. Now I just have to get more diligent on getting ads out there that truly bring in business.
Your articles always inspire me to be better. In peace and gratitude, ariel

  2. Ariel, Thank you for your remarks. You are so positive and encouraging, and it is great to be able to give something back that inspires you.
Bo is a fantastic trainer. One thing I like is that we WAGo-Getters are a test group for him, with the goal of his spreading his training and paying it forward. He is training us to do our selves, and then to be trainers of others. And he is expanding his training on Wealthy Affiliate and on here, to any who want to take advantage…all as a free gift. So generous!

  3. Annie, everything I have been seeing from you has been great, so clearly the training has been tremendously helpful to you.

I agree with what you said about the “generic” banners. It makes total sense to me as well. While they may look great, they lose some appeal if everyone is using the same ones.

    1. Hi Craig, What kind words. Thank you!
Bo has been very generous with his training and I really like that we are also being trained to pay it forward effectively. The entire community at Wealthy Affiliate is based on that principle, and it works well.
I know you have passed on some very helpful tips to me, too, that have helped me with my blog, and I appreciate them.

  4. Awesome post, Annie.
Yes. Bo is indeed a great coach and mentor. Not only wearing those hats, but he also has a heart of gold! I am thrilled to be in his network.
Yes, you need to be consistent with intent and do the work – the best recipe for success. You seem geared towards it. All the best and much success.
Keep us all abreast of your progress, Annie.

  5. Dear Annie,

Thanks for the motivating and informative post. I really agree with the idea of having a mentor or coach it will really make a huge difference and as you rightly said “What a trainer does is to individualize, systematize and encourage the trainee to go harder, further and deeper than would happen on my own.” Thanks again for the post.

    Your Friend,

  6. We are getting a lot of challenges from our coach. I know I need to figure out how to make some better ads than the ones I have because they are not getting any clicks. Hey, you were talking about changing what wasn’t working and finding what would work! I guess I know the first area I need to address.

  7. Having a coach around and finding the time to teach you how to become successful online is rear. You must be paying a hefty price to be trained by your coach. The last time I wanted to get help, I was told that it would be $400. a month for 8 hours of work monthly.

Joining any program for free is good. It tells you the credibility of that company and what they have to offer is unique and works. Thank you for sharing this awesome and unique experience and good luck with your training.

  8. Challenge is such a great word, isn’t it! I love a good challenge. Having a coach who is invested in helping us succeed to our fullest potential is priceless. There are many facets of building a successful online business and as our coach presents each opportunity to us, it’s up to us to take it as far as we possibly can.

This is an inspirational post, Annie. Thank you.

  9. Annie,

We sure do have a great coach in Bo. You seem to be blazing a trail for the group by trying everything. You are taking all the information and putting it into action. You are so right, it takes commitment to be successful. Laying out your daily routine is helpful.
