Do you like me? Relationship marketing, The Way We Build Authority

I don’t know about you, but living in a world that is instant gratification, it seems that sometimes we just expect that the magic is going to happen with out us doing any work.

I mean, who doesn’t keep looking around for our magic genie?

But in the world of online marketing, I am sorry to say there is no genie. I don’t think there is even the magic holder.

In fact, time becomes the gift of our business actually growing. Time and patience is the operational tonality of creating success here. We are building relationship marketing. And that happens through time.

So how does time do that for us, I mean how do we build authority and relationship using time?

Besides the proverbial need for patience, (who likes that, yes?) there is literally an aging process for our business sites. As the site gets older it is seen as having more authority.

don't lose heart do it anyway

1. The Google god starts to recognize our site

2. Quality content

3. Humanizing the process

4.People are our business

interacting with relationship marketing

We need all four of these properties and actions to make this work. For instance we cannot put up a website and expect the next day that 100,000 people have flocked to it. Why is that?

Because it takes time for Google to recognize our site as having valuable content. And that leads to the next point.

social media is our friend

Quality content means that we are making the choice to provide for our readers exactly what they are wanting and searching for. If that is not true not only does Google not recognize it, but we will not have any readers on our site.

Not the outcome we are surely working towards.

And always we keep in mind that we are humanizing the process. Each post needs to be told in a way that engages, uplifts and encourages the reader to participate. It is as if we are talking with a friend. That is the way we want to write on line. Friend to friend. Engaging. Great stories. So much so that we are building a relationship.

Which is the next point. People are so definitely our business. If we are not able to connect with our readers, there is no way we can create a relationship.

what is relationship marketing

So what is relationship marketing?

This is the definition from Forbes:

Relationship marketing is a strategy designed to foster customer loyalty, interaction and long-term engagement. It is designed to develop strong connections with customers by providing them with information directly suited to their needs and interests and by promoting open communication.”

In other words that are less formal,( the irony of this definition is amazing isn’t it?) it about how we  connect. No connections, no sales, no web traffic. So simple yes?

connecting through our blog

When we truly build a relationship with our readers we can count on them to come back again. And repeat business is so great for growing authority. It also means that the reader is more likely to recommend to another reader our site That builds even more relationships. And that is really great.

It is just like a new coffee shop opening on our block. If one person walks in and is greeted with a huge smile and a welcoming sense of please do come in. Versus another shop where a person walks in and is totally ignored, which customer is going to recommend which shop??

So that is our job. We want to be the coffee shop with the big smile that is so genuine and really be happy to see our readers.  And that is on us. So how are we going to make this happen?

content is king for relationship marketing

Every time we get a comment.

Respond as quickly as possible.  And not just generically.

Use the person’s name, thank them for stopping by.

Ask them if there is anything we can help them with.

Ask if there is something they might like to see on the site

Ask them if there experience was what they were looking for.

And mostly just be yourself. Find ways to engage that make us more human and conversational.

Find the common denominators of what makes us similar.

let's relate to each other

So here we are starting our fabulous online business. And we wonder does anyone notice us? Are we loved yet? And the answer is no. Not if we have not allowed time to do its job. We have to do the work to make time work for us.

So we write quality content that completely services and serves our readers. We learn what they want, and what they need. And then figure out how to make sure we deliver that. We connect in every possible with our readers.

Remember when we were little and someone gave us a gift? And we had to sit down and write a thank you note? Well here we are again. Each comment is exactly that. Our personal thank you note for finding our site and using our services.

And each thank you note needs to be personalized to the reader. No pat, thank you. Uh uh. Nope. Write from the heart, connect with our reader. Build a relationship, we all need to know we are loved and appreciated, yes?

If we are serious about our business, then relationship marketing is our path to success. Without any strong interaction and getting to know each other, we have an empty platform that will sit forlorn and unloved.

not connecting means no relationship

And that is not worthy of our hard work.

So remember each time that you work on your site writing content and answering comments, the question is, do you like me? How can I make you like me more?

Sounds silly, but ultimately it is the best way to understand that nothing, I mean nothing will work if there is not something on the site that connects our customers to us.

So do our due diligence. Know our audience, know our readers. Know what questions they are needing answered. And know that you are taking that leap to make each relationship one that says, yes indeed I do like you. And I will indeed provide for you and solve your problems.

And that is how we build authority and do relationship marketing.

Are you ready for this? If so, what is your strategy? How will you make this happen?

Inquiring minds need to know, please do comment.

After all relationships are our way to success. We got this right?

In peace and gratitude,

Founder,, living one heart-centric moment at a time.

  4. Another great article Ariel.

Just as we tend to be loyal to a store that offer us great customer service, we also tend to return to sites that make us feel welcome and valued. This can’t be pointed out enough, because, frankly, people seem to keep forgetting it.

“… nothing will work if there is not something on the site that connects our customers to us.” This is so true, and something to have constantly in mind.

    Thanks for sharing.

Well said “If we are serious about our business, then relationship marketing is our path to success. Without any strong interaction and getting to know each other, we have an empty platform that will sit forlorn and unloved.”

We need to build relationships instead of building links

    Your Friend,

    1. Hello my friend Paul, It is all about the relationships we are willing to build. And I also think its a metaphor for life. How are we going to choose to be in every facet of our lives. But in affiliate marketing if we do not connect we do not have a business. In peace and gratitude, ariel
